TARN TARAN, 14 November — Aam Aadmi Party’s Harmeet Singh Sandhu is inching closer to a likely victory in the Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll, as the 14th round of counting continues on Friday with Sandhu extending his lead. By this stage, AAP held 37,582 votes, 11,117 ahead of Shiromani Akali Dal’s Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, who trailed at 26,465 votes.

Independent candidate Mandeep Singh, supported by Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), has overtaken Congress’ Karanbir Singh Burj to secure third place with 17,052 votes, while Burj recorded 12,809. BJP’s Harjit Singh Sandhu remained behind at 5,316 votes.

Counting began at 8 a.m. at the International College of Nursing, Piddi, and will continue through 16 rounds. “The trends are encouraging for AAP, and the team is grateful for the support shown by the people of Tarn Taran,” said a party spokesperson.

Polling on Tuesday recorded a voter turnout of 60.95 per cent. The seat fell vacant after the death of sitting MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June. Harmeet Singh Sandhu, responding to early trends, said, “This reflects the faith of the voters, and we remain committed to serving the constituency with full dedication.”
