Chandigarh, 09 October 2024: The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, convened an important meeting at the Chief Minister’s official residence to approve key policy decisions and formulated a policy to remove or regularize illegal encroachments on municipal and government lands, including educational institutions, hospitals, and police stations.
A government spokesman stated that this initiative aims to resolve disputes over possession of public lands.
Moreover, the Cabinet approved the Bhondedar, Butemar, Dohlidar, Mukarridar, Mundhimar, Panahi Kadeem, Insar Kadmi, Saunjidar, and Tarddakar (Vesting of Property Rights) Rules, 2023.
This decision is part of agricultural reforms intended to empower economically and socially disadvantaged farmers who have cultivated small plots of land for generations but lack ownership records, limiting their access to crop loans and compensation during natural disasters.
