Rangla Punjab, Rs 213 crore released: Cheema

Chandigarh, November 28, 2025 — Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday announced the release of Rs 213 crore as the first installment under the state’s ‘Rangla Punjab Scheme,’ intended at improving villages and local infrastructure across the state.

Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Cheema said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for development in each assembly constituency. Committees of MLAs and officials will oversee proper utilization of funds.”

He added that the first installment has been distributed to panchayats based on proposals submitted by these committees. “These committees are continuously recommending projects, and the necessary funds will be provided accordingly,” he said, thanking the Chief Minister for launching the scheme.

Cheema highlighted broader development initiatives, saying, “Funds worth ₹334 crore have recently been released to Panchayats, Zila Parishads, and Panchayat Samitis. Development of villages and towns is ongoing, and no area will be left behind.”

The Finance Minister also pointed to infrastructure and sports initiatives, noting that over 3,000 stadiums are being built to support youth aiming for the Olympics, while 19,000 kilometers of roads are under construction. Comparing the current approach with previous governments, he said, “Earlier governments often started development work only in their final year. We have been fulfilling our promises from day one.”
