Mohali, Nov 6: A long-awaited breakthrough for Mohali city’s civic infrastructure and sanitation system is on the immediate horizon as the Municipal Corporation moves decisively to operationalize the Solid Waste Management Plant located in Samgauli. At an important meeting of the Finance and Contracts Committee held on Friday at the Municipal Corporation building in Sector-68, committee leaders focused extensively on solving the persistent waste collection bottlenecks affecting various wards.
Presided over by Committee Chairman and Municipal Corporation Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana, the panel affirmed that preliminary structural prerequisites—including the immediate completion of the plant’s boundary wall and the construction of dedicated access roads—will begin shortly to ensure the facility opens without delay.
The initiative aims to address the widespread inconvenience caused by delayed garbage clearance at Refuse Material Collection (RMC) points throughout the municipality.
Municipal authorities declared that shifting primary processing activities to the Samgauli facility will substantially reduce local waste accumulation and restore cleaner public spaces. Beyond sanitation, the committee approved comprehensive development projects valued at approximately ₹9 crore targeting road repair, structural upgrades, and basic amenity enhancements across multiple wards.
In addition, financial estimates totaling ₹30 crore have been drafted for upcoming municipal works to ensure sustained infrastructure expansion. Addressing recent public discussions, Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana also commented on the forced closure of the Phase-5 Shahimajra vegetable market, urging political figures to refrain from disrupting civic harmony and to handle community issues beyond partisan interests.
