NEW DELHI, Dec. 11— Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Thursday, their first in two months, reviewing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and setting the tone for deeper cooperation across key sectors.
The conversation came days after Modi hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin for a bilateral summit in New Delhi on December 4–5, and as US lawmakers scrutinised Trump’s India policy during Senate Foreign Affairs Committee hearings.
Modi said on X that he had a “very warm and engaging conversation” with Trump. “We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity,” he wrote.
Officials said the two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, critical technologies, energy, defence and security — areas central to the India-US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology). Both sides stressed the need to maintain momentum in boosting bilateral trade and addressing shared strategic challenges.
They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, agreeing to coordinate closely on advancing common interests.
