TORONTO, Dec 24 — Toronto police are searching for a 32-year-old man after a young Indian-origin woman was found murdered inside a residence, a case investigators say appears to involve intimate partner violence.

The victim was identified as Himanshi Khurana, 30, a resident of Toronto. Police said a Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Abdul Ghafoori, also of Toronto, who was known to her.

Officers were first alerted late Friday after receiving a report of a missing person in the city’s west end. “On Friday, December 19, at approximately 10:41 p.m., police responded to a call for a missing person in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area,” Toronto Police said in a statement.

The search continued overnight. “On Saturday, December 20, at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers located the missing female deceased inside a residence,” police said, adding that the death was being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators said the victim and the suspect shared a personal relationship. According to CBC News, police believe the incident appears to involve “intimate partner violence.”

Ghafoori is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder, which carries a potential life sentence without parole if premeditation is proven in court. Police urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact authorities immediately.
