Narnaul, Bathinda record season’s lowest

Chandigarh, Jan 7: Several parts of Haryana and Punjab witnessed sharp cold conditions on Wednesday, with minimum temperatures dipping below 5 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.

Narnaul emerged as the coldest location in Haryana, recording a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, while Bhiwani followed closely at 5 degrees Celsius. “Cold northwesterly winds are continuing to influence night temperatures across the region,” a Met official said.

Other parts of Haryana also reported chilly conditions. Hisar recorded a low of 8.2 degrees Celsius, Ambala and Karnal 8.4 degrees each, while Rohtak saw a minimum temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Bathinda was the coldest place in the state, with the mercury dropping to 4.6 degrees Celsius. “Clear skies during the night have contributed to a further fall in temperatures,” the official added.

Ludhiana recorded a minimum of 6.6 degrees Celsius, Amritsar 7.5 degrees, Patiala 7.1 degrees, while Gurdaspur saw a low of 5.7 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius.

Weather officials said cold conditions are likely to persist over the next few days, especially during night and early morning hours.
