Prayagraj, Jan 21: An Indian Air Force training aircraft crashed into a pond near the KP College grounds in the George Town area of Prayagraj on Wednesday.

No casualties were reported in the incident as both pilots on board managed to eject from the plane before it hit the water.

According to reports, the crash took place following a sudden mechanical failure in the engine during a routine flight.

Local administration and rescue teams arrived at the site immediately after the accident to begin relief operations and secure the wreckage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya noted that there were no reports of injuries to the pilots or any damage to civilian property in the vicinity. He mentioned that the pilots utilized the emergency ejection system successfully as the aircraft lost power.

“The pilot managed to eject safely and there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to civilian property,” DCP Shandilya directly said.

The incident caused a brief period of panic among residents in the densely populated George Town area. Authorities have since cordoned off the pond and the surrounding college grounds to keep onlookers away for security reasons.

Air Force officials have initiated a formal inquiry to determine the exact cause of the engine malfunction. They mentioned that the area will remain restricted until the investigation team completes the recovery of the aircraft debris.
