Kishtwar, Feb 22: A fierce exchange of fire broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district on Sunday morning. The encounter began after a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a coordinated search operation based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of armed groups in the forest belt.
The operation turned into a direct confrontation when the search parties moved toward a suspected hideout. An official involved in the operation stated that the terrorists opened fire as soon as the security personnel established a perimeter around the target location. “The joint team came under heavy fire while closing in on the suspected spot, necessitating an immediate response,” the official asserted.
In response to the initial volleys, additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the Chatroo sector to prevent any escape attempts. The entire forest area remains under a strict security blanket as the gunfight continues. Authorities maintained that the operation is being conducted with high precision to neutralize the threat while ensuring the safety of nearby civilian pockets.
A police spokesperson affirmed that the tactical teams are currently engaging the terrorists. “The area is completely cordoned off, and all entry and exit points have been sealed,” the spokesperson declared. No casualties have been reported on either side as of the latest update.
