A 62-year-old Gujarati businessman was shot and killed during an armed robbery at his newly opened store in Jackson, Tennessee, on the night of August 20, 2026, while his 19-year-old daughter stood just feet away, according to reports from family acquaintances and local residents.
The deceased, identified as Suresh Parsottamdas Patel, was a native of Aakhaj village in Gujarat’s Mehsana district. Having lived in the United States for nearly three decades, Patel had recently relocated his business operations from Chicago to Jackson City just a week prior to the fatal incident.
Community members in Gujarat expressed shock over the violent attack in the store. Dinesh Suthar, a resident of Aakhaj village, stated that a pall of gloom has descended over Aakhaj village in Mehsana district following the tragic news. He maintained that Suresh Parsottamdas Patel, a native of Aakhaj village who had settled in the United States around 30 years ago, was shot dead in Jackson, Tennessee, adding that he had been living in Chicago for a long time and had started his new store in Jackson City just a week before the incident.

Suthar asserted that on the night of August 20, 2026, a robber wearing a mask, jeans, and a T-shirt entered his store. He declared that the accused first stole dollars from the cash drawer and then shot Suresh Patel, killing him on the spot.
