Abohar, Feb 25: A 26-year-old man from Panniwala Mahla village in Abohar allegedly died by suicide at a private de-addiction centre in Sriganganagar on Tuesday morning. The deceased, identified as Harman Singh, was found hanging in the facility’s washroom after being admitted just two days earlier for heroin addiction treatment.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Des Raj of the Jawahar Nagar police station stated that the victim reportedly left his ward around 2:30 am under the pretext of using the washroom. When he failed to return, another patient discovered the door locked from the inside at approximately 6:00 am.
Police officials affirmed that the door was forced open in their presence after the hospital staff raised an alarm. Upon entry, responders found Singh, who was the only son of his family.
“Preliminary inquiry suggests drug addiction was the reason behind the suicide,” ASI Des Raj declared. He noted that the police have initiated inquest proceedings following a formal complaint filed by the victim’s uncle, Jagdev Singh.
The body was transported for a post-mortem examination and has since been released to the family for final rites in their native village. Officials maintained that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing.
