Shimla, March 11: The Shimla police have arrested a resident of Moga, Punjab, and a woman in connection with the seizure of a high-value consignment of LSD stamps. The operation, conducted in the Bishop Cotton School (BCS) area of Shimla, led to the recovery of 562 LSD strips weighing approximately 11.57 grams. Officials stated that the seized contraband is estimated to be worth over Rs 1.1 crore in the international market.
The accused have been identified as Sandeep Sharma, a resident of Dharamkot in Moga district, and Priya Sharma, a resident of Sirmour district. Following a tip-off regarding drug trade activities, a police team raided a building in the BCS area where the duo was apprehended with the prohibited substances. SSP Shimla Gaurav Singh affirmed that a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered at the New Shimla police station, and a detailed investigation is currently underway to trace the supply chain.
SSP Gaurav Singh maintained that Sandeep Sharma has been involved in drug trafficking for a decade and was previously arrested in a separate heroin-related case. The police declared that the recovery of 11.5 grams of LSD is a significant haul, as any quantity exceeding 0.1 gram is classified as a commercial quantity under the law. Officials asserted that strict legal action will be pursued, noting that the police have already arrested 136 individuals under the NDPS Act this year as part of a wider crackdown on narcotics.
