Governor reviews pilgrimage arrangements during meeting with Trust leadership

DEHRADUN, March 17 — The sacred portals of Shri Hemkund Sahib are scheduled to open for devotees on May 23, 2026, marking the commencement of the annual summer pilgrimage. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) affirmed the dates on Tuesday following a meeting with Narendrajit Singh Bindra, President of the Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, at Lok Bhawan.

The pilgrimage will officially begin on May 20, 2026, when the inaugural batch of pilgrims departs from Rishikesh. This first group will be led by the ‘Panj Pyaras’ in accordance with religious tradition. During the briefing, the Governor conducted an extensive review of the logistical and infrastructural preparations currently underway along the mountainous routes.

Governor Singh stated that all departments must operate in a synchronized manner to prioritize the safety and convenience of the visitors. He maintained that the coordination between the state administration and the Trust remains essential for a successful season.

“All necessary arrangements for the successful conduct of this sacred pilgrimage must be completed within a stipulated timeframe,” the Governor declared. He noted that the goal is to ensure that devotees arriving from across the globe do not encounter any avoidable obstacles during their journey.
