Chandigarh, October 18, 2024: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated film Emergency has been given the green light by the Censor Board, following revisions to address concerns about objectionable scenes portraying Sikhs. Union Minister of State, Ravneet Singh Bittu, confirmed the development, stating that specific scenes deemed offensive to the Sikh community were removed.

Speaking about the film, Bittu remarked, “The objectionable scenes towards Sikhs in the film have been cut, ensuring that the intellectual portrayal of history does not damage the image of Sikhs.” He said that these changes were made to protect the community’s dignity while maintaining the film’s integrity.

The Union Minister further highlighted the significance of Emergency‘s release, saying it is crucial to expose the harsh realities of the Congress regime during Indira Gandhi’s rule. “The release of this film is very important. The real face of the Congress and the bad politics of that era must be exposed to the world,” Bittu stated.

He also stressed the importance of remembering what occurred during that period, particularly the mistreatment of Sikhs and the attacks on Gurdwaras and Sri Darbar Sahib under Indira Gandhi’s government. “It is essential to bring to light what happened to the Sikhs and their holy places during that time,” he added, underscoring the need for historical awareness about the events of the Emergency.

The film Emergency, directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut, explores the controversial period in Indian history when Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency from 1975 to 1977. During this time, civil liberties were severely curtailed, political opposition was crushed, and the media faced censorship. The film portrays the political upheaval and the far-reaching consequences of the Emergency, which had a profound impact on India’s democratic fabric. Ranaut plays the role of Indira Gandhi, bringing to life the turbulent events of that era, including the government’s crackdown on dissent and the suffering of various communities.
