Madrid, July 4: Notorious foreign-based gangster Gurpreet Singh, famously known as Goldy Dhillon, has been apprehended in Spain. The high-profile detention comes as a major breakthrough for Indian law enforcement agencies, who had been actively trailing the fugitive overseas for several months. Punjab Police authorities confirmed that the successful capture was executed through a well-coordinated joint operation uniting central intelligence agencies, Chandigarh Police, and Punjab Police.
Dhillon stands accused of directing multiple extortion rings and targeted killing modules throughout Punjab from his overseas hideout over the past year. Law enforcement records link him closely to the brazen, daylight assassination of pharmacy cashier Janki Das inside Chandigarh’s Sector 11 market. Beyond organized homicide, investigations revealed that the fugitive had issued direct, threatening communications to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Neena Mittal.
Indian diplomatic and legal channels are moving swiftly to facilitate the necessary procedures to bring Dhillon back to the country. Formal validation of the arrest protocol from Spanish judicial authorities remains awaited while Indian investigators prepare the documentation.
“The detention was carried out through a joint operation involving Punjab Police, central intelligence agencies, and Chandigarh Police, who had been tracking Dhillon’s movements abroad for several months,” a police source stated.
Intelligence briefs state that Dhillon operated his network by relying heavily on modern technology, utilizing encrypted communication applications like Zangi and Signal to issue instructions to his shooters without detection. Senior investigators affirmed that the fugitive utilized these platforms to systematically coordinate cross-border arms smuggling, manage extortion threats against elite regional businesses, and supervise local recruits.
Files maintained by the National Investigation Agency associate Dhillon as a co-conspirator alongside Canada-based operative Satinderjit Singh, alias Goldy Brar, in a separate high-profile extortion and shooting case in Chandigarh’s Sector 5. While federal authorities declared Brar a designated terrorist, police officials clarified that Dhillon functioned as a separate yet highly collaborative associate within the transnational criminal ecosystem.
