Carcas, July 4: The death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela has climbed to 2,645 people, with over 12,666 individuals reported injured. Emergency workers and international rescue teams are actively operating across the affected regions to locate survivors, though tens of thousands of citizens remain missing following the powerful 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude tremors.

Data released by the Venezuelan National Assembly confirms that infrastructure damage is severe, with 189 buildings completely collapsed and another 885 structures heavily compromised. In response to the widespread displacement of residents, authorities have established 59 temporary camps to provide shelter and basic necessities.

Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s acting president, announced a week of national remembrance for those lost in the disaster. She noted that the country is grappling with immense grief while trying to stabilize the hardest-hit communities.

“Venezuela’s soul is torn by the human losses caused by the devastating earthquakes,” Rodríguez stated. “In these moments of profound sadness, we embrace those who suffer from this tragedy and reaffirm our commitment to accompany and protect them.”

Management of the relief operations is being directed through a centralized command system handling temporary housing and supply distribution. Officials affirmed that 6,462 individuals have been successfully pulled from the rubble, and aid has reached 86,117 families so far.

The geological situation remains unstable, with the country recording 890 aftershocks since the initial June 24 disasters. To manage the ongoing crisis, a massive workforce consisting of 29,567 domestic emergency responders and 3,305 international rescuers is currently deployed nationwide.
