Mumbai, April 20: Filmmaker Anurag Basu has praised Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming performance as Lord Rama in the cinematic adaptation of the “Ramayana.” Basu, who directed Kapoor in “Barfi!” and “Jagga Jasoos,” stated that the actor has successfully captured the essence of the character in the first look of the high-budget production.

The filmmaker declared that taking on such a culturally significant role required immense courage. He maintained that Kapoor’s willingness to step outside traditional industry archetypes demonstrates his dedication to challenging projects. The “Ramayana” teaser, which debuted earlier this month, has already sparked extensive discussion regarding the actor’s physical transformation.

“From whatever I’ve seen of the film and the images, he has amazingly nailed it,” Basu stated. He affirmed that the portrayal aligns with his own expectations of Kapoor’s capabilities as a performer. Basu asserted that while the role is demanding, the actor’s decision to commit to the project was the correct one.

The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is scheduled for a festive release in two parts, with the first installment arriving in Diwali 2026. Kapoor had previously shared that his personal life, specifically the birth of his daughter, influenced his decision to finally accept the role after initial hesitations.
