New Delhi, April 30: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued an interim order to preserve the multi-crore assets of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. Justice Jyoti Singh directed that the property and shareholdings remain intact while the court examines the validity of an alleged will.

The ruling follows a legal challenge initiated by the children of Sunjay Kapur and actress Karisma Kapoor. The petitioners requested the court to prevent Priya Sachdev Kapur, the industrialist’s first wife, from selling or transferring assets estimated at approximately Rs 30,000 crore.

Justice Singh maintained that the children established a prima facie case for the protection of the estate until the conclusion of the trial. The court ordered that late Kapur’s shareholding in three Indian companies must remain unchanged. Additionally, the bench restricted the sale or disposal of personal belongings, including valuable artworks.

“After hearing and examining the record, I am of the opinion that before accepting this document as a last will and testament, the defendant number one will have to completely dispel all the legitimate doubts raised by the children,” Justice Singh declared in the order.

The court noted that the current preservation order does not extend to foreign immovable properties at this stage. Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, after suffering a sudden heart attack during a polo match in England. The legal proceedings center on whether the document presented as his final testament truly reflects his wishes or if the concerns raised by his children warrant the nullification of the will.
