Chandigarh, April 30: The Haryana Police has distributed financial assistance to 18 personnel under the newly launched ‘Shagun Scheme,’ a welfare initiative designed to support the families of the force. Since its inception on April 1, the program has provided grants of Rs 2.5 lakh each to eligible employees to help manage the costs of their children’s marriages.
The initiative seeks to alleviate the financial pressures associated with domestic responsibilities, particularly for the weddings of daughters. Beyond the 18 officers who have already received funds, department officials affirmed that 12 additional applications are currently undergoing processing.
Director General of Police Ajay Singhal stated that the welfare of the force and their dependents remains a primary concern for the administration. “Ensuring the welfare of police personnel and their families is our top priority and this scheme fulfills this promise,” the DGP asserted. He further maintained that the program serves as a vital tool for the social and economic empowerment of police households.
Recipients of the grant noted the practical impact of the funds on their personal lives. Sub-Inspector Kamal Chand stated that securing the necessary capital for a daughter’s wedding is often a significant challenge. “The help we have received in the form of Shagun scheme has given us a huge relief,” he declared.
The scheme was envisioned as a permanent support structure to allow officers to focus on their professional duties with fewer financial distractions. Surinder Kumar, another beneficiary, maintained that the assistance allowed him to meet his social obligations with dignity.
