Chandigarh, April 30: A major fire erupted early Thursday morning at the BJMS warehouse near Kheri Gurna village, located on the Banur-Tepla national highway. The blaze, which began around 6:00 a.m., quickly spread through the facility where merchandise from three separate companies was stored.
More than 20 fire tenders from Rajpura, Derabassi, Zirakpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, and Ghanaur were deployed to the scene. Firefighting teams were forced to demolish sections of the warehouse walls to gain access and direct water onto the flames. The operation lasted approximately seven hours before the situation was fully contained.
Fire Officer Amarinder Singh stated that the intensity of the fire necessitated calling in backup from across the region. He maintained that his team arrived promptly following the initial report. Village Sarpanch Jasmeet Singh affirmed that only security personnel were on-site when the fire started, and they immediately alerted the authorities and warehouse management.
While the warehouse manager, Anil, stated that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, he affirmed that electronic equipment belonging to three different firms was destroyed. He did not provide a specific valuation of the financial loss, though officials noted the damage is estimated to be in the lakhs.
Local police and administrative officials supervised the operation, while residents from surrounding villages provided assistance to the emergency crews. Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, as local residents called for a review of fire safety equipment and protocols within regional storage facilities.
