Tarn Taran, June 26: Assistant Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh, who was serving as the in-charge of the Kairon police post in Tarn Taran’s Patti, lost his life on Thursday night following the accidental discharge of his service weapon. The 52-year-old officer suffered a fatal injury when the firearm went off while being cleaned.
The officer sustained a critical head wound during the incident and was immediately rushed by colleagues to the Civil Hospital in Patti, where medical professionals declared him brought dead on arrival. Senior administrative officials reached the location shortly after to oversee subsequent legal and medical protocols.
The subdivision has witnessed similar misfortune in recent days involving law enforcement personnel. “ASI Amarjit Singh died of a bullet injury while cleaning his service weapon,” Patti DSP Ravisher Singh stated while confirming the details of the incident.
The deceased officer’s body has been moved to the mortuary for a formal post-mortem examination. He leaves behind his wife, a 27-year-old daughter, and a 19-year-old son, with the department expressing profound grief over the untimely loss of an experienced supervisor.
