Amritsar, July 10: The Amritsar Rural Police arrested a key suspect in connection with a recent residential firing incident following a brief exchange of fire on Friday. The accused, Lovepreet Singh, alias Love, sustained a bullet injury to his right leg during the confrontation and was moved to a hospital for medical treatment. Investigators recovered a .30 bore pistol, a magazine, three live cartridges, and a motorcycle from the spot, noting that the individual has a history of prior criminal involvement.
The encounter took place after the law enforcement team set up a strategic checkpoint based on intelligence inputs regarding the suspect’s location. Deputy Superintendent of Police Baljit Singh stated that a police team led by Jandiala Guru SHO Harpal Singh laid a checkpoint near Jania village after receiving a tip-off about the accused’s movement on a motorcycle. When the police team signalled him to stop, the accused allegedly opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence.
The shooting incident at a residence in Sheikhupura Mohalla in Jandiala Guru traces back to an ongoing rivalry originating behind bars. The police affirmed that the firing incident was linked to a dispute inside Amritsar Central Jail on July 8 between Baljit Singh alias Bulli, whose house was targeted, and Sawaran Singh alias Kanha, another inmate currently lodged in the jail. Investigators discovered that Kanha allegedly sent his outside associates to attack Bulli’s residence to settle the score.
The arrested youth faces multiple charges, adding to an extensive criminal record compiled by local authorities. The DSP declared that Lovepreet is involved in nine criminal cases registered earlier. Law enforcement officials maintained that all individuals involved in the firing have now been nominated in the case, and active operations are underway to arrest the remaining suspects and uncover the full scope of the conspiracy.
