Chandigarh, July 17: Elaborate security arrangements and extensive traffic diversions have been enforced across Chandigarh to facilitate the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister arrived in the city to unveil a series of vital development projects valued at over Rs 6,600 crore, focusing on substantial advancements in the healthcare, education, and road infrastructure sectors.

The visit includes a strong emphasis on medical infrastructure within the Union Territory.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

The Chandigarh leg follows a highly anticipated developmental program in neighboring Haryana. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train, operating between Jind and Sonipat, at the Jind railway station. Alongside the launch of this green rail technology, he addressed a public gathering at Eklavya Stadium in Jind, where he dedicated and laid the foundation stone for separate development works totaling Rs 14,700 crore.

Following his engagements in the capital city, the Prime Minister will travel to Jalandhar to continue the multi-state infrastructure push. In Punjab, he is scheduled to launch and lay the foundation stone for several development projects worth over Rs 5,470 crore. These initiatives are specifically designed to strengthen regional rail connectivity, improve daily passenger convenience, and accelerate economic growth across the state.

The Prime Minister will also utilize the northern tour to advance nationwide transit modernization under central welfare schemes. He declared that 75 redeveloped railway stations, including Jalandhar Cantt, are being launched under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to completely revamp the passenger travel experience. Local administrative bodies maintained that the strict route modifications will ensure smooth public movement and seamless transit for the executive convoy throughout the high-profile tour.
