Jalandhar, July 20: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reviewed preparation measures for the upcoming Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship scheduled for December at the historic Raizada Hansraj Stadium in Jalandhar. Marking the return of the national-level tournament to the venue after nearly four decades, the Chief Minister announced a dedicated grant of 2.14 crore rupees to construct a modern indoor badminton hall.
The Chief Minister presented the official sanction cheque to district administration and sports association officials to initiate the facility expansion. Under the execution of the Public Works Department, existing outdoor multipurpose courts will be upgraded into an international-standard indoor complex, bringing the total capacity of Raizada Hansraj Stadium to 10 indoor courts. Upon completion, the facility will become the largest indoor badminton center in the state.
Interacting with athletes and coaches during his visit, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann affirmed that the state government remains dedicated to developing world-class sports infrastructure to nurture youth talent. He stated that Punjab’s historic connection to physical fitness and sports dates back centuries, noting traditional practices preserved through cultural events across the state.
The Chief Minister asserted that continuous state investments in athletic development are delivering measurable results, enabling local players to excel in higher competitions. He assured full administrative backing for the successful execution of the national championship in December.
