Shimla, July 23: The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts as heavy monsoon showers continue across Himachal Pradesh. Weather officials confirmed that while key central districts face intense downpours, surrounding regions including Mandi, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Chamba remain under a yellow alert for moderate precipitation throughout the day.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that day temperatures could fall by 2°C to 6°C across the hill state over the next 24 hours, even as nighttime minimums remain close to seasonal averages.
“Heavy showers are expected in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur during the day, while other parts of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rain,” stated an official spokesperson for the Meteorological Centre in Shimla.
Temperature records across major urban centers showed Paonta Sahib registering the highest minimum reading at 25°C, followed by Bilaspur at 24°C and Kangra at 23°C. State capital Shimla and hill station Dalhousie both recorded a low of 16.8°C, while popular tourist destinations Manali and Solan logged 16.9°C and 19.6°C respectively.
The coldest spot in the state was recorded at Barmour in Chamba district, where minimum temperatures dipped to 11°C amid widespread cloud cover.
