Chandigarh, July 25: Former Haryana Education Minister and Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal declared that while the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan marks a significant triumph for the nation’s youth, the central government must address all remaining student demands to restore integrity to competitive testing. Speaking to media personnel in Jhajjar, the senior lawmaker asserted that administrative resignations alone cannot resolve the deep-seated structural issues currently undermining national examination bodies.
The Jhajjar representative noted that public pressure ultimately forced official action regarding testing governance, but maintained that complete systemic reform remains essential.
Bhukkal asserted that widespread irregularities in entrance evaluations had inflicted severe psychological stress on young aspirants nationwide, alleging that nearly two dozen students died by suicide due to the resulting uncertainty. She held central authorities directly accountable for failing to safeguard student welfare and maintain basic testing security.
The former state minister criticized the official handling of peaceful demonstrations, pointing out that student groups and senior opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi, faced police action while advocating for examination integrity.
Outlining immediate legislative remedies, Bhukkal urged the central government to accept an adjournment motion on the education system in Parliament. She called for comprehensive overhauls of the examination process to rebuild public faith, asserting that student confidence in the National Testing Agency has been severely eroded and requires total transparency across all educational evaluations.
