Chandigarh, July 25: Canadian law enforcement authorities arrested 22-year-old Ritish Kumar in connection with the fatal strangulation of his 23-year-old partner, Damanpreet Kaur, in Edmonton, Alberta. The Edmonton Police Service confirmed that the incident is being formally investigated as an intimate partner homicide, with investigators stating no additional suspects are currently sought.
Emergency services initially responded to reports of an unresponsive female with suspicious injuries at a residence in the Silver Berry neighborhood of southeast Edmonton.
First responders provided emergency medical care at the location before transferring Kaur in critical condition to a nearby hospital. Medical personnel treated the victim for three days prior to her passing.
An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office officially determined the cause of death as homicide resulting from strangulation. While law enforcement initially withheld specific details surrounding the cause of death for investigative integrity, formal charges of second-degree murder were brought against Kumar following further inquiries.
Canadian police representatives affirmed that suspect processing and legal proceedings remain ongoing under local judicial protocols.
