CHANDIGARH, July 30 — The Punjab Government has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing nutritional security drive under the MERI RASOI scheme, distributing nearly 33.86 lakh ration kits to vulnerable households across the state. The quarterly campaign, executed under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, aims to cover a total of 40.48 lakh eligible families every three months.
Districts across the state have seen swift coverage, with Ludhiana recording the highest distribution at 3.86 lakh kits. Amritsar follows with over 2.66 lakh kits, while Patiala ranks third with 2.37 lakh kits distributed.
“The objective is to supplement the staple grain with essential proteins, cooking oil, and spices, thereby improving overall nutritional intake for families covered under the scheme,” stated officials from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
Each beneficiary household receives a specially assembled kit containing two kilograms of lentils, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder, and one litre of mustard oil. Assembled by Markfed, these kits serve as a nutritional supplement alongside the routine wheat allocation provided under the National Food Security Act.
