Chamba, August 11: A six-year-old boy went missing after his father allegedly threw him into the Ravi River from the Parel bridge near Kali Mata temple in Chamba district. The suspect, identified as Hitesh, reportedly committed the act late Monday night following prolonged domestic friction with his wife, Sharika.
Relatives had previously attempted to intervene and resolve the couple’s frequent arguments, but tensions persisted. Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani affirmed that police teams led by Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Sharma immediately reached the site to initiate an extensive search operation along the riverbanks.
Law enforcement officials registered a case at Sadar Chamba police station under Sections 103 and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint filed by the child’s grandfather.
Authorities noted that the couple had engaged in a major dispute last month, leading the wife to relocate to Amritsar with her younger child while the elder son, Gagandeep, remained with his father in Parel. Search units, including local rescue teams, continue efforts to trace the missing child along the river stretch. Police officials maintained that investigations are actively underway to establish the precise sequence of events and clarify the underlying motive behind the crime.
