SUNAM/LONGOWAL, AUGUST 12 — Over nineteen thousand public school scholars across Sunam are set to receive new educational materials following the launch of a comprehensive welfare drive at Shaheed S. Bhagwan Singh Government Smart School in Longowal. The initial phase of the movement provided sturdy bags to 5,710 female scholars enrolled from sixth to twelfth grade, marking a significant effort to reduce financial hurdles for working Families.
Cabinet Minister Aman Arora affirmed that the state remains fully committed to uplifting public instruction while protecting families from commercial exploitation. Addressing the assembly during the distribution drive, he declared that ensuring fundamental resources for underprivileged children represents a vital obligation for every community.
“Our aim is to ensure that no child is deprived of education due to financial constraints,” stated Cabinet Minister Aman Arora. “Encouraging students of government schools by providing them with quality education and necessary facilities, as well as recognising their achievements, is our priority. Today, students of Punjab’s government schools are performing exceptionally well at the national level, which is a matter of great pride for us.”
The initiative, funded privately via the Babu Bhagwan Das Arora Foundation, will roll out across 129 public institutions in the coming weeks. Alongside the material aid, local organizers celebrated thirteen young scholars who recently cleared prestigious national entrance tests, including NEET and JEE examinations. Eight young women were among the top achievers honored with official commendations and medals alongside top-ranking class performers.
Touching upon broader administrative oversight, the minister maintained that legal framework parameters are actively curbing arbitrary fee increases among private operators. State guidelines strictly cap annual fee raises at five percent, with provisions established to penalize non-compliant institutions and issue prompt refunds to affected guardians.
The event gathered key regional officials, including Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur, Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Ravjot Grewal, and District Education Officer Tarwinder Kaur, alongside local families and civil society leaders.
