Faridkot, August 24: Eminent neurologist Dr Rajinder Bansal on Monday assumed charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, beginning his three-year tenure with a pledge to strengthen medical education, research and healthcare services.
Dr Bansal was welcomed at the university campus by officials, faculty members, representatives of local social organisations and medical and hospital staff.
His appointment was notified by the Governor of Punjab, who is also the Chancellor of the university, under Section 14(2) of the Baba Farid University Act, 1998.
With more than 25 years of clinical and academic experience, Dr Bansal brings extensive experience in neurology and institutional leadership to the university. He completed his MBBS in 1989 and MD in Internal Medicine in 1992 from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, and later obtained a DM in Neurology from Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, in 2000.
He has served as Professor in the Department of Neurology at DMC&H and held senior positions including Senior Consultant, Medical Director and Head of Neurosciences at RG Hospitals, Ludhiana. He continues to practise as a neurologist in BRS Nagar, Ludhiana.
After taking charge, Dr Bansal said he was grateful for the responsibility and committed to leading the university with transparency and dedication.
“I am committed to working towards building an academic environment of excellence and ensuring that patients visiting institutions under BFUHS receive high-quality medical care,” he said.
Dr Bansal said improving the standards of medical education would remain a key priority during his tenure. He also outlined plans to promote research, streamline administrative processes and improve healthcare services at medical colleges and hospitals affiliated with the university.
He said coordinated efforts would be required to strengthen both academic standards and patient-care facilities across the BFUHS network.
The new Vice-Chancellor’s assumption of office comes with expectations of greater emphasis on academic excellence, research and efficient administration across the university’s affiliated institutions.
