Chandigarh, August 28: The Punjab Government announced a ten-day intensive cleanliness campaign running from August twenty-ninth to September seventh, aiming to remove all designated vulnerable garbage points across the state. Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains declared during a press conference at Punjab Bhawan that senior administration officials, regional lawmakers, municipal personnel, and non-governmental groups will actively participate in morning ground operations to eliminate identified dumping sites.
The initiative expands upon existing state sanitation efforts where officials conduct daily site visits to monitor municipal cleanliness.
Minister Harjot Singh Bains maintained that Punjab represents a revered land of spiritual figures, adding that maintaining a clean and beautiful environment remains a shared societal duty.
Urban centers across the state have identified numerous dumping locations requiring clearance, with larger municipalities such as Amritsar noting up to six hundred points and Patiala recording approximately four hundred and fifty sites. Field teams and public representatives intend to oversee clearance activities daily throughout the ten-day period.
To support the drive, the administration introduced a digital tracking feature via the official municipal portal. Residents can submit location photographs of informal dumping grounds to generate unique reference identifiers, allowing tracking of clearance progress by dedicated local monitoring units.
Harjot Singh Bains affirmed that the welfare of sanitation staff requires public cooperation, noting that community support remains essential to prevent secondary dumping in newly cleared spaces.
The minister maintained that structural oversight teams will operate within each municipal corporation and council to review ground progress and ensure swift resolution of logged sanitation issues.
