Ontario, Sept 20: Two Sikh gurdwaras in Ontario—Sikh Spiritual Centre Toronto and Nanaksar Thath Ishar Darbar—are facing a civil suit demanding the recovery of over $13 million in loans arranged through a firm founded by lawyer and former Member of Parliament Rajvinder Grewal.
The legal action was initiated in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice by private financial entities seeking repayment of funds originally secured against the religious properties. Plaintiffs maintain that legal representatives failed to complete the necessary documentation to properly register property charges, creating uncertainty surrounding the security of the debt. The dispute forms part of broader litigation involving RSG Law Professional Corporation, where civil claims across various proceedings exceed $200 million.
In response to the filings, representatives associated with the defense stated that steps toward resolving the matter have been discussed. However, legal counsel for the primary lender clarified that the court claim remains active. Ontario Superior Court Justice Frederick L. Myers issued an interim order restraining transactions on the Brampton property pending further judicial reviews scheduled for January.
