KOHIMA, Sept 26 — At least 19 people died across Mokokchung and Tuensang districts over the past two days after allegedly consuming spurious liquor, prompting law enforcement to launch a multi-district crackdown.
Official reports confirm eight fatalities in Mokokchung district and 11 in Tuensang. In response, Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kezo declared that a Special Investigation Team, headed by Additional Superintendent of Police I Bunglang Chang, has been constituted to trace the supply chain and identify the origin of the adulterated alcohol.
Law enforcement authorities initiated widespread raids across the affected regions, arresting 19 individuals and seizing close to 3,000 bottles of suspected illicit liquor. Investigating officers noted that liquor samples have been dispatched to Guwahati for forensic testing to determine the precise cause of death.
State police urged the public to completely avoid unidentified or unlabelled alcohol, advising immediate medical attention for anyone experiencing symptoms like dizziness, blurred vision, or breathing difficulties. Nagaland has maintained a total prohibition law since 1990.
