GURUGRAM, SEPT 30: Gurugram Police have registered a case against a local resident for allegedly cheating an Italian woman out of €1,000 after falsely promising her marriage.
The complainant, Paola Bertolini, a resident of Italy, met Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Gaurav Phogat to report the fraud. According to police reports, the suspect befriended the victim online, cultivated a romantic relationship, and subsequently induced her to transfer financial funds under the assurance of a future marriage.
Police officials stated that after receiving the money, the accused severed communication and blocked the victim on messaging and social media platforms. Bertolini subsequently traveled to India to seek legal recourse and file an official complaint.
Cyber crime police officers affirmed that a formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and Information Technology Act, with technical teams currently tracing electronic records and bank accounts linked to the suspect.
