Chandigarh, Oct 5: The Punjab government has decided to move the Supreme Court against the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s directive transferring the investigation into alleged government transfer and posting irregularities to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Addressing the media in Chandigarh following a state Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the administration would contest the order before the apex court. He highlighted that Punjab had previously restricted direct CBI intervention without state concurrence, asserting that the government remains firm in opposing the central agency’s takeover of the case.

The High Court’s decision follows a petition filed by advocate Nikhil Saraf alleging systemic corruption involving high-ranking officials and representatives within the administration. The petition, supported by communications from the Enforcement Directorate sent to the state DGP, pointed to alleged monetary exchanges for postings, tenders, and administrative approvals. The state government maintained that legal remedies would be pursued immediately to safeguard jurisdictional provisions.
