The India Meteorological Department monitored the landfall progression of Cyclone Arnab as the storm’s core approached the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coastlines on Wednesday morning.

Positioned near latitude 16.4 degrees north and longitude 82 degrees east over the west-central Bay of Bengal, the system maintained its course roughly 70 km south-southwest of Kakinada and 90 km east-northeast of Machilipatnam.

“The system is likely to continue moving north westwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, close to the south of Yanam, as a very severe cyclonic storm,” the Met department asserted.

The storm’s landfall process caused heavy rain across Konaseema, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalli districts. Administrative officials worked to address tree falls and monitor flood levels as sea surge entered lower-lying zones.

In response to rising waters in Kakinada’s Bombay Katta area, district police assisted four individuals who were unable to exit their workplace. Emergency responders dispatched transport to assist the individuals and ensure their safe return home.
