Ontario, Nov 7: The Government of Canada announced notable updates to its Temporary Foreign Worker program, aiming to address regional labor demands while maintaining employment priorities for domestic workers.
Employment and Family Affairs Minister Patty Hajdu declared that the updated regulations are designed to reinforce economic stability by offering targeted support to industries experiencing persistent staffing shortages.
Under the new guidelines starting November 6, 2026, the maximum validity period for new Labor Market Impact Assessment applications under the low-wage stream extends from one year to two years, reducing repetitive paperwork for prospective employers.
Additionally, early childhood educators have been added to the list of exempt sectors in areas with higher unemployment rates, joining health services, construction, and food processing. Further policy adjustments scheduled for March 2027 will introduce regional workforce hiring limits in larger urban centers while continuing flexible recruitment options for rural communities.
Ministerial representatives maintained that financial allocations totaling over $233 million will support worker orientation regarding legal rights while streamlining overall program management across provinces.
