Chandigarh, 23 December 2024: Rain is likely to return this weekend after a prolonged dry spell, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD officials forecast light rainfall in the coming days, which could also lead to an increase in fog across the region. “The rain is expected to push temperatures lower as January nears,” said an IMD spokesperson.
The city recorded its only rainfall for the month, 0.8 mm, on December 8. Meanwhile, daytime and nighttime temperatures have been fluctuating above normal levels. The maximum temperature rose from 22.7°C on Saturday to 23.2°C on Sunday, 3.1 degrees above the seasonal average. Similarly, the minimum temperature increased from 5.9°C to 7.3°C during the same period, slightly above normal by 0.3 degrees.
In the next three days, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 21°C, while the minimum temperature may remain steady at around 7°C, the IMD noted.
Amid the weather changes, air quality remains a concern. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the poor category, measured at 282 on Sunday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
