Fazilka, 13 January 2025: A collision between two motorcycles near Puranpatti village on the Fazilka-Malout Highway left two people injured on Saturday.
The victims, identified as Sukhdev Singh and Atma Singh, were rushed to hospitals for treatment by the Road Safety Force.
According to Surjit Kaur, the wife of Sukhdev Singh, they were returning from Dabwali village after celebrating Lohri with their daughter when their bike collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
“The other rider appeared intoxicated and caused the accident,” alleged Kaur.
Sukhdev Singh suffered a severe head injury and remains unconscious. Atma Singh, the other biker, sustained multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Fazilka government hospital.
However, Atma Singh claimed the accident occurred when Sukhdev Singh abruptly turned his bike onto his path. “I was riding in my lane when he swerved, leading to the collision,” said Singh.
Road Safety Force employee Sahil Sachdeva stated they provided immediate assistance and sent the victims to hospitals. Police have been informed, and further investigation is underway.
Lohri celebrations turned tragic for the family involved, and the incident has raised concerns over road safety and the role of alcohol in accidents.
