Mumbai, 19 January 2025: Mumbai police announced the arrest of a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national on Sunday, following the stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence last week.

The accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, had reportedly adopted the name Bijoy Das after entering India illegally, according to a senior police official.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the intruder was unaware he had entered a Bollywood star’s home and had intended to commit theft.

“The accused has been living in Mumbai for over five months, taking up odd jobs,” the official stated. He also confirmed that the man was arrested from Hiranandani Estate in Thane district’s Ghodbandar Road area.

Authorities said the actor was attacked inside his 12th-floor apartment during the early hours of Thursday.

Police are now working to trace the documents used by the suspect to enter India.

The suspect hails from Jhalokati, Bangladesh, and is believed to have relocated to Mumbai as part of an attempt to evade detection while seeking work.

Further inquiries are underway to establish how the accused circumvented border security and remained undetected for several months.
