Hamirpur, 29 January 2025: A leopard was spotted at the Dhaulasidh power project site in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, causing concern among workers.
A worker spotted the animal on Tuesday night and recorded a video, which quickly circulated on social media, adding to fears at the under-construction site on the Sujanpur-Nadaun road, which is surrounded by dense forests.
Vinod Kumar, divisional manager of Ritvik company, which is handling construction, said the forest department has been requested to install a cage to capture the leopard. “With continuous movement of vehicles and labourers, there is a risk of conflict with wildlife,” he said.
About 900 workers are deployed at the 70 MW project. Eyewitnesses reported that the leopard entered from the Kangra border through the Kofat Dam area.
A spokesman said forest department officials in Sujanpur Tira have been directed to submit a report and set up a cage to trap the animal.
