Telangana, 2 February 2025: A state-level task force inspection on February 1 uncovered multiple food safety violations at Shakti Milk and Milk Products in Raghunathpally Mandal, Jangaon district, prompting authorities to seize and discard large quantities of curd.

The Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, reported that food handlers failed to maintain proper sanitary practices during processing and handling. Inspectors identified structural deficiencies, including a damaged roof and flooring in the cold storage room. Pests, including houseflies and mosquitoes, were found in stored ghee, while a dead lizard was discovered near food items.

Spider webs covered parts of the ceiling.

Further lapses included the absence of pest control records and water analysis reports.

Equipment was rusted and unclean, and raw materials were haphazardly stored. Labelling irregularities were also noted on packaged products.

Following these findings, authorities discarded 720 kg of curd due to contamination, fungal growth, and spoilage.

Another 1,700 kg was seized over labelling violations and suspicions of substandard quality.

Samples have been sent for laboratory analysis, and action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and FSS Rules and Regulations, 2011.

A detailed report on the violations was shared through the official handle of the Commissioner of Food Safety.
