Telangana, 21 February — A Class 10 student in Telangana’s Kamareddy district died of a heart attack just outside her school on Thursday morning.
Sri Nidhi, 16, from Singarayapalli village in Ramareddy mandal, had been living in Kamareddy to attend a private school. Officials said she collapsed near the school entrance after experiencing chest pain.
A teacher saw her and rushed her to a hospital, where doctors administered CPR and other emergency treatment. When she failed to respond, she was referred to another hospital, where doctors declared her dead from cardiac arrest. Her body has been sent to her hometown.
Teachers and classmates expressed shock over her sudden death. “She was so young. None of us can believe this happened,” a student said.
Her case is part of a growing trend of sudden cardiac deaths among children. In Aligarh, a 14-year-old boy, Chaudhary, died of a heart attack while training for his school’s annual sports day.
Days earlier, eight-year-old Diksha from the same district collapsed while playing with friends and could not be revived.
Professor M. Rabbani from Aligarh Muslim University noted a sharp rise in such cases.
“If any healthy person dies within an hour, it is called sudden cardiac arrest. This has increased by 22% in the last 20 years,” he said.
“If a child complains of chest pain or shortness of breath, they should be examined immediately.”
