New Delhi/ Chandigarh, November 25, 2024: Ahead of the assembly elections, the AAP government in Delhi has reinstated old age pensions for over 5.3 lakh senior citizens. Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Coordinator Arvind Kejriwal announced the decision, stating that pensions of up to ₹2,500 will now be provided under the revamped scheme.

A dedicated portal has been launched to streamline applications, with over 10,000 submissions received in just 24 hours. Kejriwal highlighted that 80,000 pending pension cases have been resolved, marking a significant milestone for the elderly population.

“Our government has increased pensions since coming to power in 2015. Today, Delhi provides the highest pension for senior citizens in the country,” Kejriwal said.

Taking aim at the BJP, Kejriwal contrasted AAP’s governance with what he called the “double-engine government” of the BJP, which he claimed offers meager pensions of ₹500-₹1,000. “The AAP engine is delivering for the people of Delhi, unlike the BJP’s,” he remarked.

The initiative aims to provide financial security and dignity to senior citizens, with the Delhi Cabinet endorsing improvements to ensure faster implementation.
