Patiala, November 25, 2024: The CIA staff of Patiala Police arrested a robbery suspect following an encounter on the Sangrur-Patiala bypass. The accused, injured during the operation, has been hospitalized.

SSP Patiala, Nanak Singh IPS, stated that the incident stemmed from the theft of a Thar jeep in Nabha. The police formed multiple teams to track the suspect, culminating in today’s operation. The arrested accused, identified as Sarovar Singh alias Lovely of Nabha, is linked to several robbery cases.

During the encounter, the police recovered the stolen Thar jeep and a .32 bore pistol from the accused. SSP Nanak Singh, along with SP (D) Yogesh Sharma PPS and ASP (D) Vaibhav Sharma IPS, supervised the operation on-site.

The robbery occurred after the jeep’s owner, Chirag Chhabra (31) of Nabha, posted it for sale online. Last Thursday, three men visited his residence, claiming to test drive the vehicle, and fled with it.

Acting on a tip-off, police located the accused near the bypass, where they attempted to resist arrest by attacking officers. Police retaliated, injuring and apprehending the suspect. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the other accomplices involved in the robbery.
