Amritsar, October 23, 2024: Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has denied a request for exemption from political activities for Sukhbir Singh Badal during the upcoming by-elections in Punjab.

According to reports, this decision followed a meeting with a seven-member delegation led by Balwinder Singh Bhundar, the working president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, who sought relief for Badal.

In his announcement, Jathedar Singh raised the importance of fulfilling obligations, stating, “A salaried person must complete their responsibilities. Until Sukhbir Singh Badal settles his dues before Sri Akal Takht Sahib Panj Singh Sahib, he remains under the definition of a salaried person.”

He noted that while the decision is currently reserved, further deliberations will take place in a meeting scheduled after Bandi Chhod Diwali. “If a Sikh holds a salaried position, he must act accordingly,” Giani Raghbir Singh added, underscoring the need for accountability in leadership roles.
