Ambala Mourns Young Student Killed in Canada

AMBALA, DEC 28 – Tragedy struck an Ambala family as the body of 22-year-old Harshandeep Singh, a student shot dead in Canada, arrived for final rites. His elder sister, Prabhjot Kaur, lit the funeral pyre on Friday morning in a somber ceremony attended by grieving villagers and local dignitaries.

Harshandeep, who moved to Edmonton, Canada, on a study visa in August 2023, was studying business administration at NorQuest College. Working part-time as a security guard, he was fatally shot on December 6 at an apartment complex while on duty. Canadian authorities have arrested two suspects involved in the incident—a man and a woman—and are investigating the case.

His father, Kulwinder Singh, a farmer, and other family members are devastated by the loss. Harshandeep’s uncle shared that the young man had aspired to a better future, a dream cruelly cut short. The incident has cast a pall over the community, with many expressing shock and sorrow.
