AMRITSAR, July 27 — A wave of anxiety has swept through Mahawa village in Amritsar after Harmandeep Singh, a local youth working at a dairy farm in Italy, was reported missing. The 30-year-old had been living in Italy for the past seven years and went missing four days ago while returning home from work in Pontinia, a town south of Rome.

His father, Kabal Singh, said the family was informed of his disappearance on July 22. “We were told that he never returned home from the farm that day. The Italian police are supporting us and trying their best to locate him,” he said.

Since then, there has been no trace of Harmandeep, leaving his family in deep distress. “We haven’t heard anything from him since that day. It’s a nightmare,” the family said.

Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla visited the family on Saturday and assured them of the government’s efforts. “As soon as I learned about Harmandeep’s disappearance, I contacted the Indian embassy in Rome. They informed me they are in regular touch with the Italian police and have also reached out to members of the Indian community there for any leads,” Aujla said.

He added that embassy officials had spoken directly with Harmandeep’s father and were keeping the family updated. “All necessary steps are being taken to find him,” Aujla said.

Harmandeep was expected to travel back to India later this year to attend his younger brother’s wedding in December. The sudden disappearance has cast a shadow over the family’s preparations, with hopes now pinned on international cooperation to bring him home safely.
