Ranchi, 30 November 2024 – Anurag Gupta, a senior IPS officer of the 1990 Jharkhand cadre, assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Jharkhand on Saturday. Gupta took over from outgoing DGP Ajay Kumar Singh in a formal ceremony at the state police headquarters.
This marks Gupta’s second tenure as the in-charge DGP of Jharkhand.
Addressing his priorities, Gupta pointed up a strong focus on tackling narcotics, cybercrimes, violent offenses, and crimes against women. He urged the police force to adopt a public-centric approach, stating, “Police is for the public, and all policemen must listen to the people.”
In addition to his role as DGP, Gupta will oversee the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He was promoted to the rank of DG in 2022 but was previously removed from his position by the Election Commission during state assembly elections. The Hemant Soren-led government has now reinstated him to the top post.
